electrical fault finding in sheffield

GET A QUOTE§ PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

Is it really a fixed price, however long it takes?

Yes. The price is agreed before I arrive and it doesn't change if the fault takes longer to find than expected. I can do that because I spent my early years fault finding on car plant and semiconductor production lines, where every minute of downtime cost money.

pricing and availability

I charge a fixed £125 + VAT to find a fault in a home, however long it takes. That includes up to £20 + VAT of minor parts and there's no callout fee on top. Shops and offices are £150 + VAT, and industrial units are £200 + VAT.

Book it with an EICR and you save £25 + VAT. You pay on completion, and you can cancel up to 48 hours before at no charge.

Why does my fuse board keep tripping?

Usually because something is leaking current to earth: a faulty appliance, water in an outdoor light or socket, or a cable damaged by a nail or screw. Switch everything off at the sockets, reset the switch, then plug things back in one at a time. If it trips with everything unplugged, the fault is in the wiring and needs an electrician.

If you smell burning, see scorch marks or the switch is hot, stop resetting it and call me.

Why do my lights or electrics trip in winter?

Damp is the usual cause. Rain and condensation get into outdoor lights, garden sockets and loft fittings, and the RCD in your fuse board trips to protect you. Christmas lights plugged in outside are a common trigger, which is why outdoor sockets should always be RCD protected.

What happens if the fault needs a bigger repair?

If the repair needs no more than £20 of parts, I fix it there and then within the fixed price. If it needs more, I show you what I’ve found and you decide what you’d like to do. Nothing is done without your yes.

Do you do fault finding outside Sheffield?

Fault finding is Sheffield only. In Leeds I carry out EICRs, fuse board replacements and PAT testing.
